RACISM AT ROOT  CAUSE  OF PROBLEMS  ???
The death of a teenager in Griffith on News Day 2007 - is still reverberating in the Griffith community.
The DPP will not appeal against the sentences handed down to two juveniles who pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Meanwhile, a koori community member says the tragic incident has exacerbated divisions between the 'black" and "white" communities.
He felt there was a level of hypocrisy of the treatment by the community of the New Years Day case and another 15 years earlier when
Archie Miller, a koori,  was brutally murdered in Griffith's railway yards. He was asleep when a group of men bashed him to death with an iron
bar, robbed him and set his hair alight.
One way of moving forward was for a koori community member to be elected to council and Charles called on the Aboriginal community to
get behind a representative to run at the September 2008 council elections.

Election Timetable for Australia, States and Territories : 2008-2011

SOURCES :
(1) Elections are held each 4 years on the 4th Saturday of the month: s.24 and s.24A  Constitution Act 1902 (NSW)
(2) Electorate boundaries apply for 2 elections. A redrawing of electoral boundaries is required each 8 years, unless the number of electorates
(currently 93) is changed. In that case the electoral boundaries must be redrawn so as to apply to the election at which the changed number of
electorates applies : s. 27
Constitution Act 1902 (NSW)
(3) The last Council elections were held in March 2004. Thereafter, every 4 years, council elections are to be held on the 4th Saturday in
September : s 287,
Local Government Act 1993 (NSW).
(4) Elections are held on the 3rd Saturday in October every 4 years : s. 100
Electoral Act 1992 (ACT)
(5) Elections are to be held no later than 3 years after the first meeting of the Legislative Assembly following the last general election : s.23
Electoral Act (NT).The NT Legislative Assembly first met on 29 June 2005 after the last election held on 18 June 2005
(6) The parliament expires on 31 January  4 years after it's first meeting following the last general election : s. 21
Constitution Acts
Amendment Act 1899
(WA). The last election was held on 26 February 2005 and the parliament first met on 29 March 2005.
(7) The Queensland parliament, continues for 3 years after the return of the writs for the last general election, subject to being dissolved
earlier : s.2
Constitution Act Amendment Act 1890 (Qld). The last election was held on 9 September 2006 and the writs returned on 22
September 2006.
(8)  Elections are held on the 3rd Saturday in March every 4 years : s.28(1)
Constitution Act 1934 (SA).The last election was held on 18 March
2006.
(9) The Tasmanian parliament continues for 4 years from the day of the return of the writs for the last general election, unless sooner
dissolved :s. 23
Constitution Act 1934 (Tas). The last election was held on 18 March 2006 and the writs returned 12 May 2006.
(10) In August 2008 the Senate will be comprised of 50% senators whose term expires on 30 June 2011 and 50% whose terms expire 30 June
2014. The parliament continues for 3 years from the first sitting following the last general election, unless sooner dissolved.(s.28 of the
Australian Constitution). The last election was 24 November 2007 and the parliament will first sit on 12 February 2008. So technically, the next
federal election could be held as late as 22 April 2011. There is a restraint on holding an election earlier than 1 July 2010 - such requires a
separate Senate election (see s. 13 of the Australian Constitution). A double dissolution election is the only way 'non-separate' elections can
be held prior to 1 July 2007. Malcolm Mackerras believes that if the Senate gives Mr Rudd the trigger in the form of failing to pass bills, there
will be a double dissolution election " well before the next Victorian election",  which is fixed for 27 November 2010: see Malcolm Mackerras,
Best bets to dent dominant majority , The Australian, 8 December 2007 p.  . So apart from a double dissolution - the dates for a federal
election are 1 July 2010 to 22 April 2011 - but in that period July - October looks more feasible - and within that it may mean the window of
opportunity is narrowed to 1 September 2010 to 15 October 2010.
(11)  The Victorian parliament has a term of 4 years and elections are held on the last Saturday in November : s.38, 38A,
Constitution Act
1975
(Vic). The last election was held on 25 November 2006.

KRISTINA  KENEALLY - ENJOY IT  WHILE  YOU  CAN

Kristina Keneally MP, the member for Heffron and Minister for Ageing and Disability Services
featured  with full model style photograph, showing off the
Franco Sarto line of ladies shoes,
on the Naked Eye page of the Sydney Morning Herald on 23 December 2007.
Ms Keneally should take advantage of every opportunity she gets to build up a portfolio
for her next career.
Ms Keneally is the minister most likely to lose her seat at the 2011 election. With a margin of
23.6%, Heffron has the perfect profile to be won by an Independent at the 2011 poll.
