ANOTHER  FRIEND  OF  DOROTHY

In the Wizard of Oz the Lion declares :

We're friends of Dorothy.

In 1900 a book by  L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
was published.

This children's book tells the fantasy story of the adventures of Dorothy
in the Land of Oz.

It is one of those books, that does much to cultivate the imagination of
children, an important aspect of child development according to
Tanya Plibersek, MP the federal member for Sydney and the Australian
born daughter of immigrants from Slovenia.

Ms Plibersek says ; "
Good fiction is not a waste of time."

In 1939 the book was made into a film
The Wizard of Oz, starring
Judy Garland - in the lead role of Dorothy.

Dorothy,  lives with her aunt and uncle on their depression-era farm
in rural Kansas, USA. She dreams of a far, far better place.

She goes on her magical journey down the Yellow Brick Road,
wearing her red shoes, accompanied by her 'true' friends.

A stage production of
Oz is being held in the Country Music Capital
of Tamworth.

Performed by the En Avant Dance Studio, of Tamworth, it features
170 students, aged  4-18 years.

Unfortunately there are only 2 performances :

An evening show on Saturday 15 December 2007 and a matinee performance at Calrossy School, in Brisbane Street, Tamworth on Sunday
16 December 2007.

Assistant dance teacher at the En Avant Dance Studio in Tamworth, Melanie Taylor said :
“Entertaining is what we’re after and showing how much fun the kids have at our studio.”

HETTY  JOHNSTON  UP IN ARMS  AT  D'ARCY's  RELEASE

Hetty Johnston, is infuriated that former Queensland MP, Labor member for Woodridge, Bill D'Arcy - who was succeeded by Mike Kaiser in
the seat, ( Mr Kaiser later became an Independent MP after telling an inquiry into electoral rorting that the signature on an electoral
enrolment form enrolling him at an address he had never lived at "looks like mine") has been released from gaol on parole.

He has served about 7 years of 11 years of sentences for child sexual assault.

However, child protection group Bravehearts founder Hetty Johnston said Mr D'Arcy should not be released from jail if he has not
done a rehabilitation course.
"The most dangerous ones are those who won't admit their guilt," Ms Johnston told AAP.
"He should be in indefinite detention and I hope what is a fabulous Christmas present for him is not an absolute tragedy for an
innocent child."

Apparently, his parole conditions include no unsupervised access to children under 16 years of age, no access to schools and childcare
centres, and a provision that neither he nor his family profit from selling a story.

WOULD it be appropriate for him to wear an ankle tag so that his every movement could be tracked by GPS satellite and computer
technology ?

PREPARATIONS  FOR  GUARANTEED  ELECTIONS

In preparation for the "guaranteed" democratic elections in March 2008
President Mugabe, who has received endorsement  from his party,
the ruling Zanu PF party - to contest the  presidential ballot has
  • announced the introduction of a new currency "shortly".
  • suspended the attorney general pending investigations into claims the AG
assisted a fugitive banker flee the country.

Zimbabwe has an inflation rate of 8,000% per annum.

Zimbabwe lopped off three zeroes from its currency in July 2006 and phased
out old notes within three weeks in a programme dubbed "Sunrise".
The zeroes returned within months
"The general public, as well as the financial sector are hereby forewarned that
Sunrise Two is now imminent," Reserve Bank governor Gideon Gono said.
.....
The fresh speculation over a new currency will likely send black market
traders withholding large sums of the local currency into a panic.

The media in Zimbabwe is comprised of government run organisations and
"independent" media outlets. Reporting on events between the various
media outlets is 'varied' and 'different' - to such an extent it is difficult to envisage
they are reporting on the same event.

Spin-meisters engaged by the NSW government would no doubt cherish an
opportunity to work in a country like Zimbabwe - where spin-meisters
are given full rein and allowed to let their imaginations run wild.

IN the very unlikely event that Premier Morris Iemma gets run over by a State Transit Authority bus driven by John Watkins, you could
possibly see some CV's being urgently faxed and emailed to Zimbabwe from the "common room" of NSW ministerial media advisers -
especially by those who prefer a governance style based on spin - not substance.

PROPERTY  COUNCIL  vs  HOTELIERs - (Round 2)

Round 1 in this bout went to the Property Council on points (some considered it nearly a knock-out) - the small bars bill.

Now the Hoteliers have come out swinging for Round 2 - demanding action be taken to stop short term "private" accommodation lettings .
Once again the Hoteliers have taken the high moral ground (dangers to guests - including back-packer type fire disasters - they had used
increased drunkeness and public urination in the small bars round).

Interesting to see if the AHA can strike a blow or whether they will end up punch-drunk.

STEVE  WHAN - WHAT  IS  THE FAMILY  DOING  ABOUT  THIS  ???

Queanbeyan High School has been dubbed the roughest school in NSW.

Staff have threatened to take legal action and have moved a no-confidence motion in the
principal and the deputy.

A father has written to Education Minister John Della Bosca and the NSW Teachers Federation
seeking an explanation.

NSW hereditary House of Labor member, Steve Whan MP needs to step up to the plate and fix it.

THE THIN  EDGE  OF THE  NSW  WEDGE

Mr David Coltart, the shadow Minister of Justice in Zimbabwe, visited Australia a few weeks ago. He spoke about the
tragic situation in that country, where the poorest of the poor are oppressed by the Mugabe regime and
obscene riches flow to those in government favour. Human rights are without protection and the economy is in
free fall. The rule of law is moribund. Of course, the breaking down of the rule of law is a commonplace in every
society in which tyrants impose their will. It is achieved either by denying the judiciary any effective jurisdiction
or by making the judiciary the servile instrument of the executive government.

Judicial Conference of Australia, 3 September 2005.

BLOCK  IEMMA'S  "RATES  FOR  MATES"

On 16 November 2007 Premier Morris Iemma signed off on a "rates for mates" deal.

Without any proper independent advice and without proper regard to productivity , he awarded newly created positions
in the NSW parliament exorbitant pay rates, and increased the pay rate for a person whose job responsibilities have
actually been reduced.

  • Leader of the House (new) - $63,000 per year*
  • Assistant Deputy President (new) - $ 43,000 per year*
  • Deputy President (increase with less duties) - $20,000 increase, bringing total to $63,000 per year*

The NSW Legislative Council has the power to strike down the regulation made by Premier Iemma granting these "
rates for mates".

WRITE to our NSW Legislative Councillors and ask them to ensure ethical governance in NSW by :
  • Moving to strike down Morris Iemma's "rates for mates" regulation
  • Supporting a motion to do so
  • Voting to strike down.the "rates for mates" regulation

* These rates are additional to a standard entitlement of $126,560 per year

HEREDITARY  HOUSE  OF "COUNTRY"  LABOR

Steve Whan MP has been making all types of claims recently about the success of "Country Labor".

Yet his claims do not stack up against the facts with no "Country Labor" nominated candidate winning a
NSW seat in the recent federal election. A number of candidates who live in what could be called "the country",
appeared on the ballot paper as endorsed by "Labor", did win seats.

Maybe for Mr Whan the nomenclature next to a candidate's name on the ballot paper is unimportant - just like
the proud member of Labor in Queensland who is standing for election, as an "Independent".

Now unfortunately, Mr Steve Whan has on numerous occasions made untrue statements in the NSW parliament. He has stated that
dorothy dixer questions asked by him are "without notice" - when clearly the Minister he asked the question of was aware the question
was  to be asked and possibly even wrote, either her/himself or by his/her minions, the question.

IT is for that reason, that we have taken the view that if Mr Steve Whan makes any statement, it is best to independently check his
assertion, just in case we have been "set-up".

So we examined the Rules of the Australian Labor Party (NSW Branch) - 2005-2006 to find out a little more about Steve Whan's beloved
Country Labor.

And what did we discover ?

Country Labor is made up of (a) Trade unions affiliated with the NSW ALP; and (b) Individual members of the NSW ALP who live
in a country area. ( Schedule J. 2).

Country area means what the NSW Administrative Committee decides it means, - a bit like Alice in Wonderland (Schedule J .3(e)).

Individual members of Country Labor are those members of Labor who reside in "country areas". (Rule A.15. (c)).So a person who
becomes a member of Labor - and coincidentally happens to live in an area defined as "country" - automatically becomes a member of
Country Labor, whether they like it or not. They have no choice.

Labor MPs who represent "country" electorates are entitled to attend and vote at Country Labor conferences (Schedule J . 3(j)).For
example, a MP could live in Darling Point - but if she/he represented a 'country' electorate then he/she could attend and vote at the
conference - even though not a member of Country Labor.

An objective of Country Labor is to endorse candidates for election in federal, state and local government elections(Rule R.1.(c)).

Country Labor is a
puppet of the  NSW Branch Administrative Committee. It acts under the control and direction of the Administrative
Committee ( Schedule J, 5(a) ).

The Administrative Committee is responsible for the selection and endorsement of Country Labor candidates (Schedule J. 5. (e))

The General Secretary of Labor automatically holds the position of Secretary of Country Labor (Schedule J 4 d), and the executive of
Country Labor is Labor's Sussex Street office holders plus a Country Labor Committee (Schedule J 4. b).

SO IT is clear that Country Labor is just a "name", is spin not substance and is just a part of Labor that is a puppet of the
NSW Administrative Committee.

Steve Whan MP, the member for Monaro should stop spreading "porkies".

Whilst it is true that all members of Labor who live in country areas (however defined) are members of Country Labor, unless they stood
endorsed on the ballot paper as Country Labor candidates, they were not elected as Country Labor MPs.

To argue otherwise is similar to arguing that the RSL  or the CWA had members elected to parliament at the 2007 federal election. Whilst
members of those organisations may have been elected to parliament, those MPs were elected as endorsed Labor/Liberal/National
candidates. They were not elected on the basis of their membership of the RSL or the CWA - neither of which name, appeared on the
ballot paper next to their name.

Steve Whan MP for Monaro should start being a little more truthful in the statements he makes in the Manor House on Macquarie Street.
Otherwise he may find the peasants (like their nature) will start revolting.

Is honesty too much to expect ?

Especially from a hereditary member of the House of Labor.
