DELLA BOSCA's "A NICE MAN" John Della Bosca MLC , according to regular race-goer and former Federal Minister John Brown:
"He's a delightful person " and he "covered himself with glory right through his political career ".
AND that sentiment seems to be echoed by anyone who has had anything to do with Mr Della Bosca.
Certainly Paul Pearce MP (Coogee) Kerry Hickey MP (Cessnock), and Keith Perkins a community member from Dubbo, agree with Mr Brown.
WHICH makes Morris Iemma's treatment of him - so peculiar.
The only conclusion one can draw is that Morris Iemma has "lost it" - making a decision not on "principle", (despite him spinning it as such) - but because he was "forced" to act by media pressure.
WHY has no action been taken to track down and root out the ministerial staffer who produced the pathetic movie Della's Downfall ?
The only good thing to come out of that movie was that it prompted someone to produce the block-buster movie Iemma's Dilemma. IEMMA GETTING DONE "SLOWLY" - DEFERS PRIVATISATION : WHO IS RUNNING THE STATE ???
You're not so big and tough now, are you
With those words echoing in his ears, former Iemma Minister, Milton Orkopoulos, went down from the dock to the cells underneath Newcastle District Court. AND it seems those words must be haunting Premier Morris Iemma and Treasurer Michael Costa, as they go down the track of selling off NSW's electricity assets.
Debate on Iemma's electricity privatisation bill will be delayed until September 2008 - to enable the Auditor General to prepare a report to parliament - in order to meet one of the alternative government's demands.
Big business is said to be "thrilled".In terms of democracy, while big business may be able to fund election campaigns, they have only one vote like everyone else. AND the number of big businesses to benefit from the electricity sell-off, will be a maximum of 3 or 4 . SO big business is irrelevant to the debate. Iemma has "put off" the day of reckoning. BUT as sure as the sun rises in the morning, the day of reckoning will come.
You could have knocked me over with a feather, when I saw the Channel 7 News .
Alternate Premier Barry O'Farrell's comment on what his reaction was to the revelation of the events on that fateful Friday night in June at Iguana Joe's.
After 5 years, Gary Burns has got what he originally wanted and "more".
Radio 2UE has settled his complaints concerning on air comments , on terms :
As well as Mr Price making an on-air apology, and a written apology to be printed in The Sydney Morning Herald, 2UE has agreed to make a $10,000 donation to the HIV-AIDS charity the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and promote the foundation with community service advertisements.
2UE had appealed a 2004 NSW ruling that it had vilified homosexuals by comments made in 2003 about gay renovators Waz and Gav of Channel 9's programme "The Block".
Mr Burns had appealed a 2-1 verdict made in 2007 that found comments made by John Laws in 2004 (when he called Queer Eye For the Straight Guy star Carson Kressley a "pillow biter" and a "pompous little pansy prig") were reasonably broadcast in good faith, despite their tendency to incite severe ridicule of homosexuals.
The settlement terms resolve both long running issues completely.
Mr Burns said :
"All I wanted was an apology and now I've got it." "I have been fighting this case for five years, not for any personal financial gain, but on behalf of the gay community and the protection of our rights not to be publicly ridiculed."
HETTY JOHNSTON - eat your heart out !!!
Footnote : Mr Burns, was raised in northern NSW. He is remembered for his questioning of the then Education Minister, Carmel Tebbutt, regarding her decision to ban certain books from schools at a Meet the Candidate meeting during the Marrickville by-election in 2005 when she was attempting to move from the Upper House to the Lower House. As a result of Ms Tebbutt's embarrassment, Labor quickly released details of who would replace her in the Upper House in the event she won the by-election, in order to placate the significant "gay vote" in the Sydney inner west electorate. The Greens candidate, Sam Byrne indicated support for the books. Labor suffered a significant swing against it in the by-election, but Ms Tebbutt was able to hang on - and entered the Legislative Assembly.
On a visit to Brisbane recently a group of us decided to go to the Breakfast Creek Hotel for Sunday afternoon drinks in the establishment's delightful outdoor beer garden.
That afternoon a band was playing, which provided pleasant background music. Unfortunately, one of the group (who we will call Tim) suffered from Attention Seeking Syndrome. Possibly because of the effects of the sun, I agreed at Tim's suggestion to ask the band to play the Alannah Myles version of the song "Black Velvet". The female vocalist had a great voice. Then, in a moment of madness, I agreed to join Tim on stage to do a slow strip to the beat. The crowd were enjoying the impromptu show and we were nearly down to our underwear, when the establishment's bouncers intervened and stopped the show. We went to the Bar. Before Tim had time to order beers, we were approached by 2 burly guys in Australian Army uniform, which was a bit of a worry until one said " We know what you guys are - but heck, at least you've got balls. We are gunna buy you beers."
The Australian newspaper had a historical look at One Nation. Journalist Andrew Fraser in an article titled ; One Nation, and one lone Queensland MP published on 14 June 2008 wrote :
"I'm a representative, not a politician," she [ Dorothy Pratt MP ] said. "Politicians got too tied to political parties and lose their independence, so they just do what the party tells them and not what their constituents want." The member for Nanango, northwest of Brisbane, is the only one of 11 One Nation MPs elected to the Queensland parliament a decade ago who is still there. ......... Mike Kaiser, who ran Labor's campaign in Queensland in 1998, said that when it became obvious One Nation was going to poll well, there was no shortage of people urging Labor to have nothing to do with a bunch of racists and gun nuts. "But our whole strategy was to separate the people who voted for One Nation from the One Nation organisation," he said. "A lot of people voted for them who lived in the outer suburbs - they had no public transport, no services, they were unhappy, and frankly, they had a reason to be unhappy. "What we tried to do was reach out to them through mechanisms such as the community cabinets and regional sittings of parliament, so you're out there directly talking to people." ........ Lee Long was elected in 2001..... "One Nation was right then, it's right now and it will be right in the future," she said. "Everything we talked about - government departments being corporatised, our resources being sold off overseas, primary industries being deregulated and destroyed - has all come to pass."
Belinda Neal MP (Robertson -NSW federal) may be finally off the front pages - but things aren't necessarily getting better for her, especially after PM Rudd issued a statement in relation to the demon child affair :
" It is now a matter for individual members if they still wish to raise a matter of privilege in the house. The Prime Minister believes the comments were very inappropriate. He also believes they were out of step with all parliamentary standards past and present. "
Apparently, the PM's suggestion has been taken up, and Ms Neal has been referred to the appropriate committee.
ON the other hand, Ms Neal may have accepted some PR advice - look contrite and ashamed. Leave the anger on the footsteps of parliament. Appear teary, wounded and hurt. Go for the sympathy "vote". It seems she is following it so far - as the pic of her in federal parliament on 16 June 2008 indicates.
Michael Costa wouldn't back down to Premier Morris Iemma, when Iemma suggested the government sell off retail only.
Mchael Costa wouldn't back down to the Unions when they opposed the sell-off.
Michael Costa wouldn't back down to the Labor conference when it voted against a sell-off.
Michael Costa wouldn't back down to threats of expulsion from the Labor Party.
BUT Michael Costa has backed down to Alternate Premier Barry O'Farrell's demands (or at least one of them).
WHAT's the go ? Is Costa planning on joining the Liberals after he is expelled from the Labor Party ?
HAS Morris Iemma once again failed to show any leadership and merely washed his hands of the electricity sell-off, handing it over solely to Costa - so Costa can do whatever he likes ?
A bit like putting Dracula in charge of the blood bank, but anyway.......
